Update for Donators

Tuesday, March 01, 2016

The Forage Aid team has sent out the following information to donators:-
We are still collecting and delivering much needed forage and straw to the farmers affected by the serious weather events that have occurred in recent months in an around the Cumbria area. The media may have gone a little quiet recently, which may leave you all thinking "is the crisis over?" or "has the need for help disappeared?".   The answer is NO! We are still receiving calls and emails from those affected and are doing our upmost to collect, haul and deliver much needed forage and straw as quickly as possible.

The result of these weather events has meant that forage has either been damaged, washed away or is in very short supply. In some areas grassland has been severely damaged and is effectively useless.  Farmers are rapidly using up supplies of forage to feed their livestock which was meant for use later in the year.

With this in mind, we are still taking offers of help and logging them on our database in order that we may, where possible, collect and distribute as necessary. As we have nowhere to store the donations indefinitely, we continue to ask that if we have not managed to collect your donation, that it may be banked and stored for future use. We appreciate that some donators may now need to utilise the barns or outbuildings where the forage is stored and we fully understand that the donation may now not be available. If this is the case, we would ask if you could email and advise us of this.

We are overwhelmed by the amount of pledges we have received and how generous people have been. We are sure you understand that we have a mammoth task, collecting, hauling and delivering forage to those in need and with the expansiveness of this, we have not collected from all as yet. This is not due to the pledge being unwanted, it is down to the sheer volume of help offered and needed and organising the logistics of such.

Finally, on behalf of us all at Forage Aid and the farmers we have been able to help, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to you all for your generous thoughts, actions and donations.
