Wednesday, August 08, 2018

Meurig Raymond, past President of the National Farmers Union and farmer from South West Wales has been appointed alongside Neil Wilson, Head of Agriculture at HSBC UK Bank plc to support the current team of trustees.

Forage Aid founder, Andrew Ward, said ‘These are two key appointments to strengthen the breadth, depth and geographic coverage of Forage Aid as we look to the future. Meurig and Neil are well known and well-connected across the country and will help us to continue to push forward with our charitable objectives.’

Meurig Raymond and Neil Wilson join the current trustees Andrew Ward, Edward Ford, Rebecca Horsington, Jennifer and James Winslade, Tom Hind, Michael Buchan and Edward Roach during a challenging time for the farming industry with 12 months of weather extremes, most recently the drought, having put untold pressures on farming families across the UK.

Former National Farmers Union President Meurig Raymond said ‘It is a privilege to join the Forage Aid Charity as a Trustee. It is an important charity that supports farmers and farming families affected by extreme weather events. I am honoured to be working with such a dedicated group of people’

Neil Wilson added ‘I am delighted to be joining Forage Aid to help achieve its aim of supporting farmers and the welfare of farm animals affected by extreme weather. This is a great charity with agriculture at its heart and a motto of farmers helping farmers and I want to do all I can to make sure we get that message out loud and clear.’

Forage Aid has seen calls increase over recent weeks as the weather challenges become more apparent. Andrew Ward said ‘The challenges for the industry are growing daily at the moment and Forage Aid are heavily involved in trying to ensure forage and straw are available through our work with the NFU on the Fodder Bank and we are also fundraising and on the lookout for donations that we could call on if required. Any support from the industry is gratefully received and we would love to hear about it’.
